Let’s face it, we all want to work out more, eat home-cooked meals, and spend time working on our personal hobbies. Unfortunately, what keeps us from achieving these things is usually time. It takes time to go to the gym, time to prepare meals, and time to work on our hobbies. It is often time that we do not have one.
In order to improve our chances of realizing our dreams, the best option is to streamline our day, so that we have the best chance of getting that coveted “time off”. Here are some tips that work even for exhausted moms or career women on the go.
Preparation for the day the day before
Let’s face it, most of us aren’t at our best during the early hours of the day, but we’re generally more awake and alert at night. Choosing what we’re going to wear, picking up the coffee maker, and packing everything you need to head out the night before will make your morning go a lot easier.
Help you wake up faster
You can also reduce those wasted hours of fog by helping you wake up faster. Immediately open the curtains and expose yourself to the sun. The sun naturally burns melatonin, so you’ll feel awake faster. Drinking a glass of water can also help speed up your wakefulness process, as it kickstarts your metabolism.
Avoid wasting time
You tell yourself you’re just going to check something on Facebook for a mental break, and before you know it, 20 minutes have passed. Social media is full of distractions that make it easy for you to lose focus. If you can, avoid these time wasters altogether while you work, or set a timer to remind you to get out after a few minutes.
Delegate work
Like everyone else, you probably have your strengths and weaknesses. Do the things you’re best at, but if you’re particularly bad at something, you might want to let other people help you out. This could be letting older children help with household chores (even if you know it won’t be done right) or letting co-workers take care of something instead of doing it yourself.
Consolidate your runs
Do you always find yourself running to the store at the last minute for a specific ingredient? Try to combine your journeys so that you no longer zoom out every 5 minutes or stop on the way back to buy ingredients.
If you can arrange it so you can do your shopping while the kids are at karate, or get all your ingredients for the week at once, you’ll save a lot of time.
These hacks can help organize your life in small ways to make it easier for you to do what you want with your life. However, there are also more important things to consider, if your commute is a very long one to get to work, consider moving closer to work or finding a new job to spend less time travelling. When you start looking at your day, you can often see what the problem is, and saving time becomes easier.
