In The News: Viron Rondos and Counter Weight Brewing win awards

Thomaston Savings Bank has partnered with CDC New England to fund Small Business Administration-approved loans for Viron Rondo Osteria and Counter Weight Brewing Co., two of this year’s National Small Business Week winners .

Viron Rondos, owner of Viron Rondo Osteria, received the small entrepreneur of the year award. Viron Rondo Osteria is located in Cheshire at 1721 Highland Ave., offering lunch and dinner service seven days a week as well as private events indoors and on their outdoor patio. Rondos has owned the restaurant for over eight years and previously operated restaurants in Avon and Litchfield.

William Pastyrnak of Counter Weight Brewing Co. received the award for Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year. Counter Weight Brewing Co. opened in March 2017 and recently opened its new location at 7 Diana Court in Cheshire, which houses two bars and an outdoor entertainment area.

7-Eleven celebrates its grand opening

The grand opening of 7-Eleven, 815 Hamilton Ave., in Waterbury will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, free drinks and a grant that will go to an area school.

Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary, available city aldermen and other officials will join 7-Eleven leaders for a red ribbon cutting to celebrate the store opening and the additional employment of at less than 25 people.

The grand opening will offer free coffee, Slurpee and fountain drinks.

The nearby Hopeville Elementary School has been nominated and approved to be the recipient of a $711 7-Eleven Project A Game grant.

The 7-Eleven has a Laredo Taco Company restaurant that seats 15 located in the large building. Open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Laredo is 7-Eleven’s version of authentic Mexican cuisine.

The store plans to be a 24-hour business with a gas station offering unleaded, super unleaded and diesel.

As with all 7-Eleven stores, the location will feature branded items such as coffee beans and freshly brewed coffee, Big Gulp and Slurpee beverages, and our new fruit flavored frozen lemonades. Also offered are hot to-go and ready-to-bake pizzas, taquitos, fresh sandwiches, crunchy salads, and store-baked cookies and pastries.

Business networking event scheduled for Friday

On Friday, the Waterbury Regional Chamber invites business owners and representatives to its monthly Wake Up Your Business online networking event.

Hosted on Zoom from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Wake Up Your Business gives individuals the opportunity to build new relationships, grow their business, and create more exposure. During the meeting, participants will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their company. The meeting will be moderated by CEO and President of the Waterbury Regional Chamber, Lynn Ward.
