Newburyport – Joan Kingsbury (née Orser) died on May 1, 2022 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. She was surrounded by her husband RC (Ray) Kingsbury; son Dale Kingsbury; and her daughter Shelley Marinucci. Joan was born in Hartland, NB, Canada, in 1944, the daughter of Ivan (d. 1945) and Greta Orser (née Delong) and raised in Bridgewater, ME, by great and stepfather Paul Young ( both died in 2018). Joan and RC were married on May 1, 1962 and moved to Newburyport in 1976.
While in Newburyport, she worked at Gould Electronics in Dexter Industrial Park, earned a journalism degree at Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in Haverhill and is best known for spending 17 years as a cashier at the Newburyport Five -Hundred Savings Bank. She fought a 40+ year battle with scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension and was active in scleroderma support groups and fundraisers.
She is survived by her husband RC; his son Dale, his wife Carrie and their son Paul; daughter Shelly, her husband Joseph and their daughter Samantha. Also Joan’s brother Brian Young and his wife Devi; Joan’s sister, Paula, and her husband Ronnie; several nephews/nieces and great-nephews/-nieces; his aunt Ann Marie Belyea; and many very close friends and neighbours.
No formal service is planned, instead there will be a celebration of life later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation or the Scleroderma Foundation New England.
