LEAP graduates 21 regional leaders

FLORENCE – Despite a difficult year, there were only laughs and smiles when Leadership Pioneer Valley hosted the graduation ceremony for its regional leadership development program, LEAP.

This year, the group of 21 professionals from the region’s businesses, non-profit organizations and the public sector were able to come together at the Look Park Garden House in Florence for the celebration. This graduation came after an intense and condensed program conducted mostly virtually with some outdoor learning experiences this spring.

Hampshire County graduates include: Jocelyn Alvord of Florence, Greenfield Savings Bank; Lisa Brecher from South Hadley with the Center for Human Development; David Feinstein from Amherst with the Eric Carle Museum; Doug Hall of Amherst with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission; Farid Kaymaram from Amherst of Hampshire Mosque Volunteer; and Erin O’Neil of Hadley of New England Public Media.

The program has been condensed from nine months to six and has added new topics relevant to leadership right now to develop leadership and community skills. The sessions were conducted on Zoom which was difficult at times but, despite the virtual setting, participants always found ways to connect with each other.

This promotion is the 10th promotion, bringing together more than 300 graduates representing 125 companies, organizations and municipalities in the region.

Florence Bank recruits Defoyd as Marketing Communications Officer

FLORENCE – Florence Bank recently announced the appointment of Erin defoyd as marketing communications manager. Defoyd, who lives in Hampshire County, joins the bank with over 20 years of banking experience and relationships in the communities served by the banks.

After graduating in communications from the University of Connecticut, he worked in broadcast media at WWLP-22 News in Springfield and Fox61 in Hartford.

Sara West, a resident of West Hartford, Connecticut, serves as the account manager. She was educated at the University of Colorado at Denver.
