Samsung announced that it has developed a 16 gigabit (GB) low-power dual-rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM based on 14 nanometers (nm), designed to drive the growth of high-speed data service applications, including 5G, intelligence artificial (AI) and the metaverse.

Samsung’s LPDDR5X is a next-generation mobile DRAM designed to dramatically increase speed, capacity and power savings for future 5G applications. In 2018, Samsung shipped an 8GB LPDDR5 DRAM and today the company is aggressively overtaking the mobile markets with the first 16GB LPDDR5X DRAM.
LPDDR5X DRAM will deliver data processing speeds of up to 8.5 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is over 1.3 times faster than LPDDR5’s 6.4 Gbps. Taking advantage of advanced 14nm DRAM processing technology, it will also use around 20% less power than LPDDR5 memory. Additionally, the 16GB LPDDR5X chip will enable up to 64 gigabytes (GB) per memory packet, meeting the growing demand for higher capacity mobile DRAM around the world.
Later this year, Samsung will begin working with global chip makers to establish a more viable framework for the expanding world of digital reality, with its LPDDR5X serving as a key part of that foundation.
The company will look to expand its range of mobile DRAMs with continuous improvements in performance and power efficiency, while strengthening its market leadership with greater manufacturing agility.
